August Wine Spotlight: Page Cellars & Darby Winery - 2020 - Mourvèdre

Since August is #WAugust Washington State's summer wine month I am giving you a double bottle highlight this month. Love that I can showcase Columbia Valley wines and you will get to read all about a favorite one of mine that I shared with friends this month.
I love a good Mourvèdre (pronounced MoreVedra) so when I had friends over to celebrate WAwine month and they liked the Page cellars one they picked, we had to see if I had a same year, same grape, different Vintner wine we could try side by side.
Playing with wine is so much fun and a side by side is a great way to do it. Each wine maker has a different style and there the grapes are grown also matters. So two seemingly similar bottles of wine can give you a very different experience.
These however were classic Washington Mourvèdre and were very similar but I will note that the Darby Winery wine had a bit more funk to it, which I love. Page cellars was delicious too but came off a tad brighter than the Darby. The best news, my friends each had a favorite but agreed they were both delicious.
Thanks to the work I put in years ago to catalog my wine in Cellar Tracker (yes sometimes I feel like a wine shop inventory manager) I am able to quickly find wines with specific things we might be looking for. Love my cellar tracker, it's like the best instant gratification shopping experience you can have. Even more fun when I get up bring my friends in on the fun. Yes I know how much wine I have, where it is all located and no I won't admit the number of bottles ;)
Hey Wen, my smartass comment above aside... I love the side by side comparison...
What would also be supercool is to throw in a mourevedre from the southern Rhone ( though admittedly might be tough to find it as a standalone grape and not part of a blend) ,maybe one from Australia, and a monastrell from Jumilla Spain (Juan Gil makes an excellent one at a very user friendly price point) for a global comparison
So first you had some vedre...and then you went into your cellartracker and had some mourevedre...
Thank you , I'll show myself out 🤣🤣🤣🍷🍷
